Fifth-grade students and their parents invited to maturation program

UPDATE • THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

As a preventive measure, in alignment with recommendations by health authorities who are working to control the spread of COVID-19, we have postponed all fifth-grade Maturation Programs. We hope to be able to reschedule these events or arrange to videotape the presentations and share it with parents through a password-protected link. Once we’ve finalized our contingency plans, we’ll send an email with further instructions to all fifth-grade families.

It’s difficult to know who has more trepidation about discussing health and the maturation process, pre-teens or their parents. But while growing up can be hard, talking about it needn’t be. To help you rock “the talk,” Canyons School District has developed an informational maturation program  for fifth-grade students and their parents. Presentations conducted by the professional speaker Carrie Ann Kemp have been scheduled through the month of March. All parents are encouraged to attend these free events with their children, and to choose which date best fits their schedules, so that they can continue the discussion in their homes. Please follow this link for event locations and times.

Cleo with X96

We enjoyed a fun after school pick-up with Cleo from X96. Cleo was here giving high five’s to students and thanking parents for not idling. Thank you parents for keeping our air clean.

Board Meeting: Move to Crescent View

From Canyons School District:

Peruvian Park “On Tuesday, February 18th the Canyons School District Board of Education will be having a second reading regarding the proposal to have Peruvian Park students attend the Crescent View Building during the 2021-22 school year while the new building is being constructed.  The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Canyons School District administration building located at 9361 South 300 East in Sandy.”

As a reminder, this proposal is for us to remain in our current building next school year, the 2020-21 year.  During the 2021-22 school year, the proposal is to have students attend at the Crescent View Building located at 11150 South Vista Way (approx. 300 East) while the new building is under construction.  Peruvian Park will be housed in the east side of that building.  Edgemont Elementary students will be also be attending Crescent View using the west portion of the building. Each school will maintain their separate programs.   Our new school is scheduled to open in August 2022.  Final approval on the proposal is expected to occur in April or May. We will let you know the date and time well in advance of the meeting.

Keeping Our Promise: Four CSD Schools Scheduled for Construction

Canyons District’s aggressive school improvement schedule continues with four schools slated for construction.

Rebuilds of Peruvian Park Elementary, Union Middle and a school in the White City area will start in 2021, under a plan recently approved by the Board of Education to ensure the timely completion of the projects promised to voters with 2017 passage of a $283 million bond. The plan, which entails consolidating White City’s Bell View and Edgemont communities to be housed in a new school on the Edgemont campus, also calls for the construction of a new school in west Draper starting in 2023.
